After an early breakfast, we begin our scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara via a comfortable tourist A/C Deluxe bus. The journey follows the Prithvi Highway, winding along the Trishuli and Marsyangdi Rivers, offering beautiful views of rolling hills, terraced fields, traditional villages, and glimpses of snow-capped peaks on clear days. We will stop a few times for lunch and bathroom breaks. Pokhara, often called the "Lake City," greets us with its relaxed atmosphere and beautiful natural setting. Meals: Breakfast
Today we begin the trekking adventure! After breakfast, we drive to Nayapul, the starting point of our trek. From Nayapul, we follow the Modi Khola river and pass through the bustling village of Birethanti, where we check our permits. The trail winds through lush farmland and small settlements, offering a glimpse of rural life in Nepal. As we ascend, the landscape begins to change from subtropical forests to steeper, stone-paved stairways. The final stretch to Ulleri involves a challenging uphill climb of over 3,000 stone steps, but the rewarding views and sense of accomplishment make it worthwhile. Ulleri is a charming Magar village set on a ridge with panoramic views of the surrounding hills.
Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Tikhedhunga
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a good night’s rest, we start the steady ascent toward Ghorepani. The trail takes us through lush rhododendron and oak forests, which are especially stunning during spring when the rhododendrons are in full bloom. Along the way, we pass small streams, waterfalls, and charming tea houses that offer scenic rest stops. As we climb higher, the air becomes cooler and the mountains begin to appear more prominently. Ghorepani is a picturesque village nestled below Poon Hill and surrounded by snow-capped peaks, including Annapurna South and Nilgiri. The village serves as a major stop on the popular Ghorepani-Poon Hill trekking route and has a welcoming atmosphere with many comfortable lodges. Prepare for an early start the next day to catch the sunrise from Poon Hill.
Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Ghorepani
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today begins before dawn as we hike up to Poon Hill, one of the most iconic viewpoints in Nepal. The one-hour uphill climb is steep but manageable, and we’re rewarded at the top with a magical sunrise over the Himalayas. As the sun rises, the snow-capped peaks of Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machapuchare (Fishtail), and Hiunchuli glow golden in the early light. This moment is a highlight for many trekkers and offers incredible photo opportunities.
After spending time at the summit, we descend to Ghorepani for breakfast and then begin our trek toward Tadapani. The trail climbs through more rhododendron forest, with occasional clearings revealing mountain views. We’ll pass Deurali Pass and gradually descend through mossy woods, alive with birdsong and rich biodiversity. The final stretch to Tadapani offers glimpses of Machapuchare again, standing proudly in the distance. Tadapani is a peaceful spot surrounded by forest with panoramic mountain views.
Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Tadapani
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
We begin the day with a descent through dense rhododendron and bamboo forest toward the Gurung village of Chhomrong. This scenic village sits on a ridge and offers jaw-dropping views of Annapurna South and Machapuchare. It's also the gateway to the Annapurna Sanctuary. After lunch in Chhomrong, we descend steep stone steps to cross a suspension bridge over the Chhomrong Khola and then begin a steep uphill trek through forests to reach Sinuwa.
This section of the trail passes through beautiful landscapes, and while it's physically demanding due to the numerous steps and elevation gain/loss, the natural beauty and well-maintained paths make it enjoyable. Sinuwa is a small settlement perched on the edge of a forest, with a few cozy lodges and a peaceful atmosphere. The day is long but rewarding, bringing us deeper into the heart of the Annapurna region.
Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Sinuwa
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today we continue deeper into the Annapurna Sanctuary, where the trail becomes quieter and more remote. The day begins with a pleasant walk through thick bamboo forests until we reach Bamboo, a small resting place. From there, the trail climbs gradually to Dovan and then through forests and rocky paths up to Himalaya Hotel, a good place to stop for lunch.
Beyond Himalaya, the forest thins out, and we begin to see signs of glacial terrain with occasional landslide areas. The air becomes cooler and thinner as we gain elevation. After a final push through a mix of forest and exposed rocky trail, we reach Deurali, a small settlement tucked beneath towering cliffs and surrounded by high alpine scenery.
The views become increasingly dramatic as we approach the base camp zone, and the anticipation builds. Deurali can be quite chilly, especially at night, so prepare for colder weather.
Accommodation: Teahouse (twin or sharing room), Deurali
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This is one of the most exciting days of the trek as we reach our main destination, Annapurna Base Camp (ABC)! After breakfast, we follow the trail along the Modi Khola River, ascending steadily toward Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC) at 3,700 meters. The trail is exposed but relatively gradual, passing through a spectacular valley surrounded by snow-covered peaks.
From MBC, we continue ascending toward ABC. The views open dramatically, and you’ll feel as though you’re walking into a natural amphitheater of giants. On a clear day, you're surrounded by Annapurna I (8,091m), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchare, and other majestic peaks. The air is crisp, the landscape stark and stunning.
Reaching ABC is an emotional moment for many, and we’ll spend the afternoon exploring, taking photos, and soaking in the grandeur of the Himalayas. Sunset at ABC is magical, with golden hues painting the surrounding peaks.
Accommodation: Teahouse (twin or sharing room), ABC
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a peaceful and unforgettable night at Annapurna Base Camp, we rise early to watch the sun rise over the mountains, a final visual gift from the Sanctuary. After breakfast, we begin our descent. Retracing our steps, we hike back down past Machapuchare Base Camp, Deurali, Himalaya, and Dovan.
Although it’s mostly downhill, the long distance and constant descent can be tough on the knees. We take frequent breaks and enjoy the changing landscape as we leave the alpine zone and re-enter lush forested trails.
Our destination for the night is Bamboo, a quiet stop nestled in the forest. It’s much warmer and greener than the previous few days, and the change in altitude is noticeable. After a long day of descent, a hearty dinner and good rest will be well deserved.
Accommodation: Teahouse (twin or sharing room), Bamboo
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today’s trek is relatively short and relaxing compared to the previous days. We begin with a short decend to Sinuwa, and then ascent the familiar stone steps back to Chhomrong. After a break in Chhomrong, we descend steeply down to Jhinu Danda, our stop for the night.
Jhinu is famous for its natural hot springs, located about 20 minutes downhill from the village near the Modi Khola river. After days of trekking and physical exertion, soaking in the hot spring is pure bliss. It’s a perfect place to relax your muscles, chat with fellow trekkers, and enjoy the therapeutic experience surrounded by nature.
Jhinu Danda also offers lovely views and comfortable teahouses. This is a great night to reflect on the journey and celebrate how far you’ve come. Overnight stay in Jhinu.
Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Jhinu Danda
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast, we begin our final day of trekking. The trail descends gradually through farmland and forests, passing small Gurung villages and terraced rice fields. It’s a peaceful walk with a different feel from the higher altitude trails, offering a pleasant ending to the trek.
We arrive at Nayapul, where our vehicle will be waiting for the drive back to Pokhara. The drive takes about 1.5 hours, and upon arrival, you’ll check in to your hotel and have the rest of the day to relax.
Pokhara offers many post-trek comforts, massage centers, cozy cafes, lakeside walks, and excellent food. This is a great time to celebrate the completion of your trek and maybe even enjoy a celebratory dinner with your guide and porter.
Accommodation: Tourist-standard hotel (twin/double room), Pokhara
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
After breakfast, we take a tourist bus back to Kathmandu, retracing the scenic highway route alongside rivers, green hills, and countryside villages. The drive takes around 7 to 8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions. Alternatively, you may opt for a 25-minute flight (optional) if you wish to return faster.
Upon arriving back in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. If you missed visiting any cultural sites on Day 1, this is a great chance to explore places like Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, or Pashupatinath Temple. In the evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner with a representative from Desire Adventures. After dinner, you’ll have free time to relax, stroll around Thamel, or shop for some last-minute souvenirs.

I was pleased to go on the ABC trek plus Poon Hill this February. Kishor was a very polite and attentive guide, and especially helpful during more difficult sections of the trek, such as navigating the snowy weather. He was very knowledgeable of the mountains and I appreciated him sharing his insights into the Annapurna range. M Read More
