Reaching the base camp of Mt. Everest (5,364 meters) is a proud and unforgettable achievement. While it is not the same as climbing the summit, standing at the foot of the highest mountain in the world is deeply rewarding. This journey takes you far from your home and daily routine and brings you into the peaceful and beautiful world of the Himalayas. You will walk through quiet mountain trails, enjoy stunning views, experience sacred landscapes, and meet the warm and welcoming Sherpa people who live in this region. Many trekkers say this journey helps them discover inner strength they never knew they had.
Desire Adventures offers a well-organized 14 day Everest Base Camp Trek. The adventure starts and ends in Lukla, which you reach after a short 15-18 minute scenic flight from Ramechhap. Along the trail, you will walk with fellow trekkers, guides, porters, local Sherpas, and even yak caravans carrying supplies. You’ll make unforgettable memories, meet new friends, and learn about the mountain way of life.
Our professional English-speaking guide will be with you throughout the trek, explaining the natural surroundings, mountain culture, and the importance of monasteries, prayer flags, and chortens (Buddhist shrines). You’ll stay in local teahouses/lodges, where you’ll enjoy warm meals and rest comfortably. These teahouses are run by local families, and your stay helps support their livelihood.
Although this trek does not require technical climbing, it does involve many ups and downs. It is suitable for people who are physically fit and can walk steadily for several hours a day. We follow the golden rule “climb high, sleep low” to help prevent altitude sickness. For this reason, we include two acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche.
The best seasons to do this trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (mid-September to December). Whether you're a solo traveler or part of a group, we’re happy to help you join or organize a trek. We also offer special group discounts and options to customize the trip based on your time, preferences, and budget.
For those seeking more challenge, we also recommend our Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Lake and Cho La Pass (17 Days) or the Everest Three Passes Trek.
Detail Itinerary
Welcome to Nepal and Desire Adventures. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be met by a company representative. After a quick meet and greet at the airport, you will be driven to your hotel booked for you in Kathmandu by private transfer.
Spend some time at leisure. After a short rest, a meeting will be conducted either at your hotel, or our office, where you will be introduced to your guide and fellow travelers. The introduction session will be followed by a briefing that sketches out the wonderful trip that awaits you. Trekking gears and clothing that you will need during the trek will also be finalized in the same meeting. The time after the meeting can be spent at leisure.
✅Accommodation: Tourist-standard hotel (twin/double room), Kathmandu.
Your adventure begins with a pre-dawn drive (approx. 4-5 hours) from Kathmandu to Ramechhap in a shared vehicle to catch the peak season flight. The 15-minute flight to Lukla is a thrilling experience, offering breathtaking views before landing at the legendary Tenzing Hillary Airport.
In Lukla, you'll meet your porters and enjoy your first breakfast in the Khumbu region. The trek begins with a gentle descent, following the Dudh Koshi River. You'll pass through charming villages, cross your first suspension bridge, and see beautiful Mani stones carved with Tibetan mantras. This initial 3-4 hour walk is a perfect introduction to the trail, ending in the peaceful village of Phakding. If time and energy permit, an optional acclimatization hike to the local monastery is a great way to end the day.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Phakding
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today's trek is a challenging but rewarding journey to the vibrant Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar. The trail meanders through pine forests and follows the Dudh Koshi valley. A key milestone is entering the UNESCO-listed Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo, where your guide will handle all the necessary permits.
The final section involves a steep, switchbacking ascent and the crossing of the iconic Hillary Suspension Bridge, towering high above the river. It's on this climb that you may catch your very first, awe-inspiring glimpse of Mount Everest. After 6-7 hours of trekking, arriving in the bustling, amphitheater-shaped town of Namche is a welcome sight. Settle into your lodge and enjoy the rest of the evening exploring the town's unique shops and cafes.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Namche Bazaar
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Acclimatization is crucial for a safe and successful trek. Today is dedicated to the "hike high, sleep low" principle. You have several excellent options for a day hike, and your guide will help you choose the best one.
The most popular choice is a 4-5 hour circuit to the neighboring villages of Khunde and Khumjung. This route offers:
✅Stunning panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and the iconic Ama Dablam from the Syangboche airstrip.
✅A visit to the Sir Edmund Hillary-founded school and hospital.
✅A stop at a monastery that famously houses a purported "Yeti scalp".
This hike provides incredible scenery and a fascinating insight into Sherpa life, all while helping your body adjust to the altitude. You will return to Namche for the afternoon, giving you more time to relax and explore.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Namche Bazaar
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Leaving Namche, you'll follow a spectacular contouring path that offers some of the most breathtaking views of the entire trek. The Himalayan panorama, featuring Everest, Lhotse, and a stunningly close Ama Dablam, is simply unforgettable.
After a gradual walk, the trail descends steeply to the river at Phunki Thenga before beginning a challenging two-hour climb through a beautiful rhododendron forest. Your destination is the spiritual heart of the Khumbu: Tengboche. Here, you will visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest in the region, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere and incredible mountain backdrop.
Pro-Tip: For a better night's rest at a slightly lower elevation, we can descend for another 20 minutes to the quieter village of Deboche, which often makes the following day's trek feel easier.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin-room), Tengboche/Deboche
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After an optional morning prayer with the monks at Tengboche, our trek continues into the high alpine country. We begin with a descent through a beautiful forest to cross the Imja Khola, then start a gradual climb towards Dingboche. The landscape transforms dramatically as we move above the treeline, entering a starkly beautiful region of low shrubs and vast, open terrain. Known as the "summer valley," Dingboche welcomes us with breathtaking views of Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and the striking Island Peak.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Dingboche
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
A second crucial acclimatization day is vital for our success. Your guide will lead an incredible day hike to help your body adjust to the thin air. The primary option is a climb up Nangkartshang Peak, which offers what are arguably the best views of the entire trek. From the summit, you are rewarded with a stunning 360-degree panorama of multiple Himalayan giants, including Makalu, Lhotse, Cholatse, and the otherworldly glacial lakes at the foot of Ama Dablam. After this spectacular hike, we return to Dingboche to rest and recover.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Dingboche
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today we ascend to the edge of the mighty Khumbu Glacier. The trail climbs steadily to a ridge high above the valley floor. The most poignant part of the day is ascending the Thukla Pass, where we walk through a somber yet powerful memorial park of stone cairns dedicated to the climbers and Sherpas who have lost their lives on Everest. Beyond the pass, the landscape feels truly remote and wild. We follow the glacial moraine to the high-altitude settlement of Lobuche, our stop for the night.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Lobuche
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
The day you've been waiting for has arrived. We trek along the rocky, lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier to Gorak Shep, the last settlement before our goal. After checking into our lodge and a quick lunch, we make the final push. The trail winds over ice and rock to the ultimate prize: Everest Base Camp. Standing in this legendary place, surrounded by towering peaks and the notorious Khumbu Icefall, is an unforgettable moment of achievement. We spend time soaking in the atmosphere before returning to Gorak Shep for a well-earned rest.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Gorak Shep
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Our day begins before dawn with the trek's ultimate visual reward. We ascend to the summit of Kala Patthar, the most famous viewpoint for Mount Everest. As the sun rises, it casts a golden glow over the highest peaks on Earth, creating a breathtaking, once-in-a-lifetime panorama of Everest, Lhotse, and Nuptse. After savoring this peak moment, we descend to Gorak Shep for breakfast and then begin our long journey down the valley, reaching the lower, more comfortable altitude of Pheriche for the night.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Pheriche
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
With our main goals accomplished, we now retrace our steps down the valley. The long descent is made easier by the steadily increasing oxygen levels. It’s a day to appreciate the landscape from a new perspective as we pass back through villages like Pangboche and Tengboche. After a full day's walk, we arrive back in the bustling hub of Namche Bazaar, where a hot shower and the town's vibrant energy await.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Namche Bazaar
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This is our final day of trekking. We make the steep descent from Namche, crossing the familiar high suspension bridges for the last time. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through charming villages before the final climb back up to Lukla. Tonight, we celebrate our incredible achievement with our guide and porters, sharing a final dinner and reflecting on a truly remarkable journey through the Khumbu.
✅Accommodation: Lodge (twin room), Lukla
✅Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a final mountain breakfast, we take the thrilling morning flight from Lukla back to Ramechhap. From there, our vehicle will be waiting to drive us back to Kathmandu (approx. 4-5 hours). Upon arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel. In the evening, we will host a farewell dinner for you to commemorate your successful trek.
✅Accommodation: Tourist-standard hotel (twin room), Kathmandu
✅Meals: Breakfast, Farewell Dinner
Your incredible 14-day Everest Base Camp adventure comes to an end. As per your flight schedule, a representative will transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight home or to your next destination. Thank you for trekking with us, and we wish you a safe journey onward!

An Unforgettable Journey to Everest Base Camp
Thinking about tackling the iconic Everest Base Camp trek? Desire Adventures Nepal is here to guide you every step of the way. Our 14-day adventure is a journey through breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and unparalleled natural beauty. Here's what you can expect on this once-in-a-lifetime expedition.
Best Time to Trek
The Everest region welcomes trekkers year-round, but the best conditions are typically found during two distinct seasons:
-
Spring (March-May): This is a prime time for trekking. The days are long and sunny, offering clear views of the majestic Himalayas. The trails come alive with blooming rhododendrons, creating a stunning visual contrast against the snow-capped peaks. Temperatures are mild and comfortable, making for a truly enjoyable hike.
-
Autumn (September-November): Many consider this the absolute best time for the EBC trek. Following the monsoon season, the air is crisp, skies are a brilliant blue, and the temperatures are just right—not too hot, not too cold. While the trails can be busy, the incredible views and perfect weather make it worth it.
Food and Accommodations
Our trekking package includes three nutritious meals a day. While you're in the mountains, it's essential to fuel your body with carbohydrates and protein to maintain energy. You'll be staying in charming teahouses, which are simple, clean, and comfortable lodges designed for trekkers.
-
Dining: You'll be served a variety of delicious and hearty meals. While you won't find an extensive Western menu, you'll be treated to authentic Nepali cuisine, including dal bhat, a staple of rice, lentil soup, and vegetable curry. We highly recommend you stick to vegetarian options while on the trek. Meat is not butchered locally and must be transported from lower elevations, which compromises its freshness and cleanliness. The vegetarian dishes are not only safe but also incredibly flavorful and packed with the energy you need.
-
Teahouses: These lodges provide basic yet cozy rooms, usually with two single beds. You'll find a central communal area with a stove, which is a great place to warm up in the evenings and share stories with fellow trekkers. Hot showers and electricity for charging devices are often available, though sometimes for a small fee.
Trekking Difficulty and Preparation
While you don't need any technical mountaineering skills, the 14-day Everest Base Camp trek is a physical challenge. The long daily hikes and significant altitude gains require a good level of physical fitness.
-
Physical Fitness: If you're a seasoned hiker, the journey might feel straightforward. However, if you're new to long-distance trekking, we recommend preparing with regular cardiovascular exercise and hiking to build your endurance.
-
Altitude: The trek takes you above 5,000 meters, which means altitude sickness is a real possibility. Our guides are trained to monitor your health and ensure a safe, gradual ascent. It's crucial to listen to your body and our guides' instructions. We'll take frequent breaks, drink plenty of water, and ensure you're well-acclimatized. A positive attitude and determination are just as important as physical strength!
Safety and Insurance
Your safety is our top priority. Our guides are experienced, certified in wilderness first aid, and committed to making your trek as safe as possible. They will lead you through the trails with care, monitor your well-being, and make sure all accommodations and meals meet our high standards of cleanliness.
-
Travel Insurance: We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance for this trek. The remote mountain environment comes with unique risks, including sudden weather changes, potential accidents, and altitude sickness. Insurance that covers high-altitude trekking and helicopter evacuation is essential. This will protect you from unexpected expenses and give you peace of mind throughout your journey.
