Everest Base Camp Trek Cost

Trekking in Nepal has become commercialized since the 60’s and 70’s when adventurers from around the world recognized the beauty of Nepal hidden amidst the Himalayas. One of the first articles that were written on trekking in Nepal described the alluring and untouched natural beauty of the country and was published in 1968, encouraging adventurers to travel to this mysterious land of the Himalayas. The tourism industry has come a long way since then. Perhaps the trekkers want to escape their usual chaos and city humdrums and enter the simplicity of living or want to find peace amidst the Himalayan massif such as Everest. Here is some information you’ll need to know while planning your Everest Base Camp Trek.

Choosing the right company for you:

Along with growing tourism comes the question of value and financial cost. Various companies offer packaged tour to Everest Base Camp. Nonetheless, very few companies provide the best quality in their pitched price with safety, customized itinerary and extra facilities. There is so much information floating in the internet that it has become both a curse and a boon for the travelers to make a decision on what to choose and what to expect out of a company.

Your preference matters:

Perhaps it is best to say that the entire cost depends on the number of people and the number of travelling days, the time of the year when you want to travel and the type of trek (luxury or economical). As the number of days increases in your trek, so does the payment to your guides and the company. Similarly, if you choose the package in a group, the shared cost comes down rather than that of trekking alone. The cost also differs according to the type of accommodation and facilities you choose. Luxury travel costs more with better facilities while economy travel includes shared transportation and tourist standard lodges. Likewise, if you choose to travel in the shoulder season, the price comes down rather than travelling in the peak season (March-May/ September-November).

The trip price coated by Desire Adventures includes:

  • Airport pickup and drop off
  • Accommodation facility depending on the type of trek you choose
  • Guided city tour of Swayambhunath (monkey temple), Boudhanath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar Square palace. If time permits we will also visit Patan Durbar Square
  • Flight to Lukla-Kathmandu-Lukla
  • TIMS and Sagarmatha Base Camp Permit
  • Required government taxes
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner during the trek
  • Mineral water and seasonal fruits
  • 1 licensed guide for every 5 trekkers
  • 1 porter for 2 trekkers carrying 25-30kgs
  • Insurance to the guide and porters
  • Duffel Bag, T-shirt and destination map
  • Basic First-Aid Service

Being smart and taking precautions:

The above mentioned facilities are included from basic to luxury treks. Nevertheless, if the trekker wants to customize their itinerary or accommodation, we will be happy to help you out and work on your desired schedule. The cost does not include your health insurance or helicopter evacuation. Thus, it is advisable to get insurance before coming to Nepal for your own physical and financial safety.

Some extra money for recreation:

The playground for outdoor sport enthusiast offers a lot more than just the mountains. As soon as you enter popular checkpoints like Lukla and Namche, you will be introduced to the locals showcasing their culture through various traditional foods, customs, ornaments and dresses. From making delicious yak cheese to local brewed coffee, this part of the Himalayas has been commercialized throughout the years and now welcomes guests from all around the world. If you want to take souvenirs or rest at one of these cafes, you can do so but at your own cost.

Cutting down the cost:

It is also advisable to bring your own water bottle, purifier, power bank and gears, apparels to save money during the trek.  Carrying your own energy drinks and trail mix, snickers/ granola bars will also save some money up in the mountains where due to transportation barriers the cost becomes high. Similarly, booking a economy flight to Nepal is commonly heard but not interpreted well. Many airlines give last minute discounts and getting a subscription/ notification on the news is perhaps a good option. The newly opened walk in-out trail to Everest Base Camp from salleri is also a good option for the trekkers who like to explore the trail less wandered while saving up some cash.
