Detail Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Paro and transfer to Thimphu.

Arriving in Paro, you'll be treated to an awe-inspiring mountain flight, showcasing the world's highest peaks. Upon completing customs formalities, our representative from Desire Adventures will greet you at the airport. After a delightful lunch, immerse yourself in the afternoon sightseeing tour of Paro. Visit the Ta Dzong Museum, a treasure trove of religious relics, art, and handicrafts, providing a captivating glimpse into Bhutan's rich historical and cultural tapestry. Continue to the Rimpong Dzong, home to the famous painting of Milarepa, the revered meditation master. These dzongs, once formidable forts, now serve as monasteries and administrative hubs. Following a scenic drive along the Pachu River, reach Thimphu, the vibrant capital city. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel in Thimphu.

Day 02: Explore Thimphu

Experience the transformation of Thimphu from a rustic village to a bustling capital city with a full day of sightseeing. Begin by exploring the National Memorial Chorten, originally built as a protection against modernization's negative influences and now a symbol of global peace. Visit the ancient Changangkha Temple and the Drubthob Monastery, home to the Zilukha Nunnery.

Immerse yourself in Bhutanese art at the School for Arts and Crafts and discover centuries-old scriptures at the National Library. Witness the traditional paper-making process at the Traditional Paper Factory and delve into Bhutan's past at the Folk Heritage Museum.

If time allows, visit the Takin nursing pen and Tashichhodzong, an impressive fortress housing ministries, the secretariat, and the central monk body. On weekends, explore the vibrant Thimphu Market, which showcases a variety of Bhutanese culinary delights. Rest comfortably at your hotel in Thimphu.

Day 03: Thimphu-Punakha

Embark on a scenic drive over the Dochu-La pass, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks, before reaching the charming Punakha valley. Experience the beauty of the countryside as you catch glimpses of everyday life in this remote kingdom, with the Dochu-La area displaying vibrant rhododendron forests bursting with colors in spring.

Welcome to Punakha, the former capital of Bhutan, where you'll visit the Punakha Dzong, known as the "Palace of Great Happiness." Built in 1637, this dzong sits at the confluence of the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers and serves as the winter residence for the Je Khenpo and hundreds of monks. Admire the intricate architecture and the beautifully adorned entrance pillars crafted in gold and silver. This historic site holds special significance as it was the location of Bhutan's first king's coronation.

After a delightful lunch, take a leisurely stroll to Chimi Lhakhang, the Temple of the Divine Madman, Drukpa Kuenly. This temple, associated with fertility, is sought after by childless couples seeking blessings. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay at your hotel in Punakha, immersing yourself in the natural beauty and cultural richness of this captivating destination.

Day 04: Punakha, Thimphu, and Paro

Early in the morning, take a drive to Yabesa village, where you can hike to Khamsum Yueley Namgyal Chorten through lovely rice fields. This lovely chorten was built by Her Majesty Queen Ashi Tshering Yangdon Wangchuk. It is located by the river and is perched high on a hill. It contains artwork from the Nyingmapa tradition. Enjoy a delightful picnic lunch by the river before exploring Wangduephodrang Dzong. The Dzong is a magnificent example of medieval architecture that was strategically built in 1639 at the confluence of two rivers.

When you return to Thimphu, you can look around the shops that sell souvenirs and handicrafts. As you proceed, you should stop at Semtokha Dzong on your way to Paro. This ancient fortress, Bhutan's oldest dzong, was built in 1627 for Language and Culture Studies and is now home to the Institute. When you get to Paro, check into your hotel and have a relaxing night.

Day 05: In Paro, hike Tiger Nest

After breakfast, set out on a hike to Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger's Nest. Even though it is uphill, the trail offers a wide path and ascends in about two hours. It is possible to arrange a horseback ride to the viewing area for those who would rather not hike there. Experience the breathtaking sight of Taktsang Monastery, perched 900 meters above the valley floor on a sheer cliff face.

Buddhists place a great deal of significance on this holy location because it is thought that Guru Rimpoche meditated there and spread Buddhism to Bhutan in the eighth century. According to legend, Guru Rimpoche and his partner took on the forms of Guru Dorji Drolo and a tigress in order to vanquish the demons in the valley below.

Take a break and relax with some refreshments at a nearby teahouse after exploring the monastery before making your way back to Paro for lunch. In the afternoon, drive to the Drukgyel Dzong, which Shabdrung originally constructed in 1644. The dzong, though it was completely destroyed by fire in 1951, provides a glimpse of its former splendor. If the weather is right, you might even get a breathtaking view of Mount Jomolhari in the distance. Make sure to stop at some of the Paro Valley's other top sights on the way back to Paro. Finish the day with a relaxing night's sleep at your Paro hotel.
